SNL's "Weekend Update"

I'm a big fan of the "Weekend Update" segment on NBC's Saturday Night Live, and I've got to say the current anchor team of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler is absolutely marvelous -- the best in years: funny, pointed, with fabulous chemistry. Check out samples of their news reports (these from the March 11, 2006, edition -- and you can read other weeks using the pulldown menu at the left).

Indeed, often I only tune into SNL at 12:10 a.m., just to catch "Weekend Update." But tomorrow (Saturday, May 13, 2006), SNL's guest host is Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the musical guest is Paul Simon! Oh, I am so going to be watching!

Thanks for the heads up on this weekend's SNL. I'm not sure if Julia Louis Dreyfuss ever actually hosted the show, apart from being a castmember. I hope Paul Simon makes his way into some of the sketches too. He often plays characters that end up being the only sane one on the stage - hilarious.

Not only is this Julia's first time hosting, it's the the first time any female former cast member has returned to host the show! :)

Holy crap! The real Al Gore was a surprise guest on SNL last night. He did the opening as his State of the Union address from a parallel version of Earth where he is president -- what a hoot!

And he guested on "Weekend Update" debating global warmng with Amy Poehler, who was playing an airhead (which she empatically is not). Amy's best point: "Here's a picture of Jessica Simpson eight years ago -- and here's a picture of her today. See? Much hotter! Hotter is good ..."
